“I believe the face of the MTA should be an active Trooper, so I am Supporting F/Sgt Mike Sekscinski “Ski” for President”

Chris Sasse Ret., F/Sgt Maryland State Police, Current MTA Vice President

Mike “Ski”

Mike “Ski” Sekscinski, First Sergeant Proudly serving in his 23rd year, Mike brings over two decades of distinguished service and proven leadership to his candidacy for Maryland Troopers Association President. As an active member currently serving as First Sergeant at the Easton Barrack, where he leads operations and property management as part of the Barrack's leadership team, Mike understands firsthand the evolving challenges facing today's Troopers and the critical need for strong advocacy.

As the only active Trooper seeking executive leadership, Mike brings a current understanding of department operations, policy impacts, and the day-to-day realities facing active personnel. This perspective, combined with his commitment to honoring retirees' contributions and addressing their ongoing needs, positions him to bridge the gap between active and retired members, ensuring comprehensive representation for all MTA constituents.

Mike is focused on four key priorities as he pursues election:

Legal Support: Ensure the MTA budget strategy prioritizes comprehensive legal support for Troopers facing increased challenges from evolving legislation and department policy.

Tax-Free Pension Benefits: Fight in Annapolis to secure tax-free pension benefits that recognize Troopers' service to public safety while maximizing their retirement security.

Alternative Benefit Programs: Build programs that honor Troopers' service with consistent support after retirement, including enhanced estate planning and life insurance benefits.

Financial Literacy: Champion financial literacy initiatives that equip Troopers with the knowledge to maximize their benefits and build secure financial futures.

Mike's operational excellence directly translates to advocacy and leadership. During his tenure as Detective Sergeant/Assistant Commander with Eastern Region Drugs/Homeland Security Investigations (2018-2023), his leadership in communicating across jurisdictional boundaries led to a significant increase in large-scale drug investigations and culminated in one of the department's largest drug cases in history. His comprehensive response to the regional heroin crisis reduced fatal overdoses, demonstrating his ability to identify systemic problems and implement effective solutions, skills applicable to addressing MTA member concerns and legislative challenges.

His leadership philosophy of empowering others and driving results was evident as First Sergeant at Annapolis (2016-2018), where he restructured operations resulting in an increase in traffic stops and DUI arrests. Selected as the Department's Safe Streets Coalition coordinator, he successfully managed over $375,000 in grant funding while building coalitions, experience that translates directly to legislative advocacy and stakeholder management for MTA members. While in Annapolis as Acting Barrack Commander, Mike developed protocols for fallen service member escorts that became the standard adopted by Virginia and Delaware. This experience in policy development and multi-state coordination demonstrates the strategic thinking necessary for office.

A significant portion of Mike's career was spent commanding the Salisbury Maryland State Apprehension Team/Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force 2009-2016), where his leadership and investigative skills produced notable results. He successfully managed over $494,000 in grant funding with 100% compliance and led multijurisdictional operations. The fugitive task force finished number one nationwide during Operation Violence Reduction 7, earning commendations from the US Marshal Service. This seven-year command experience demonstrates the strategic leadership, fiscal responsibility, and limitless commitment essential for MTA service.

Mike lives in Bishopville with his wife, Meagan, and daughters, Addison and Paisley. Law enforcement runs in his family; his paternal grandfather (Wilmington Police Department), father and stepmother (Delaware State Police) all served in policing. When not at work, Mike can be found on the water, where he enjoys boating, fishing, and waterfowl hunting. His daughters keep him grounded and remind him daily that the most important lessons often come from the youngest teachers. He remains perpetually fueled by coffee.
